With a strong history of over 150 years, First United Methodist Church is the oldest church in Waco. We celebrate our rich heritage in our Traditional Services, and yet we also adapt to new elements, such as Multi-Media and video clips, to enhance worship. These services meet in the Sanctuary on Sundays at 8:15 & 10:50 am.
Accompanied by the 45-rank Schantz pipe organ, the 90+ member Chancel Choir leads the music with fresh anthems and favorite hymns. Members of the choir vary from those who just like to sing to professional musicians. All are welcomed and encouraged to join us in song!
The 8:15 & 10:50 services offer traditional
elements such as reciting the Lord's Prayer, the Apostle's Creed,
and partaking of Communion (approximately six times a year).
The congregation praises the Lord through well-known hymns and older
praise songs.
There is additional music during Offertories
and specials, featuring instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages
who have been blessed with wonderful God-given talents. We also
feature on occasion our children's
choirs, the youth
and college choir, and our four handbell
choirs, to lead us in worship.
Every Sunday, you'll hear a message focused
on real-life issues of living an authentic life in Christ.
Those who attend a Traditional Service are also encouraged and invited to join in a small group Bible study during the 9:30 Sunday School hour. Classes are available to meet the needs of all ages and walks of life.
