First United Methodist Church offers a weekday Preschool program designed to help your child grow and develop in all areas of his life. We strive to supplement the home by helping children develop intellectually, physically, spiritually and socially. Our Preschool is licensed by the State of Texas and is governed by our Preschool Council.
Children must turn age three on or before September 1 to enroll in the three-year-old classes and four on or before September 1 to enroll in the four-year-old classes. Children must be toilet-trained before school begins.
Our certified teachers plan age-appropriate curriculum to help prepare your child for his/her school career. A typical school day will include activities that incorporate all learning modalities (visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic) and large group, small group and individual activities. Teachers use literature-based activities, creative art, games, books and learning centers to teach pre reading, prewriting and math skills. Math activities include counting, patterning, sorting, matching, calendar skills, shape recognition, one to one correspondence and simple addition.
The three-year-old classes study thematic units. Each week, their activities will revolve around the theme. The four-year-old classes study a letter a week. They will learn to recognize each letter, learn the correct formation of each letter and the sound each letter makes. Special activities include music, P.E. and field trips. Bible stories and songs will also be part of the daily curriculum. The teacher will be at liberty to bring God into any everyday situation. All children attend a weekly chapel service, led by a minister of First United Methodist Church.
Preschool operates September through May. Preschool classes meet from 8:30 - 11:30 am or from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm for the all-day Preschool class. We observe the same holidays and school closings as the area school districts.
Parents are asked to help with one class party during the year and help provide transportation on field trips. NO children other than enrolled preschoolers may attend field trips or class parties.
