Dear First
Methodist Family,
While I write this article, I’m preparing for a short mission trip to Peru. I’ll have the privilege of playing a part in dedicating a church First Methodist funded in response to the destruction a major earthquake inflicted on one of our very poor sister churches in Chincha, Peru. If you remember, First Methodist raised $80,000 in a week to re-build the demolished adobe structure; in fact, our congregation was so generous that the new church we helped build will stand the rigors of these natural disasters. As you read this article, I will have just returned from this short missionary journey, with a few stories to tell and a sense of the world-wide scope of ministry of which I am a part as Senior Pastor of First Methodist of Waco.
Wayne shared with me that I’ll also be preaching two times while I’m in Peru. It’s always fun to share the Gospel on the mission field, but it’s even more fun when every phrase has to be interpreted as I preach. However, the Good News is the Good News in every language and I’m looking forward to representing a great God and a great church in Peru.
We’re at the half-way point in our current message series on “Simple Machines – Making Life Work.” Last weekend the message was “First Line of Defense – The Ramp” and this |

weekend we’ll hear about “Getting Your House in Order,” using “The Lever” as our illustration. We’ll see another one of our “Tool Time” video productions, but we’ll also learn how a relationship with Jesus Christ can help bring order to a life or a home that is struggling.
I hope you’re hearing good things from those who attended our “Time to Grow” session and meal last week. If you’d like to play a part in this ongoing mission, you can access our web-site at “Time to Grow - Strategy.” You’ll discover a video and pod-cast, that will change on a periodic basis, and will help you with the mission of helping build a dynamic and growing church. You’ll discover that you are the key to what kind of church we’ll be in the future. Check out the web-site and listen to the pod-cast and view the video. You’ll begin to see what one of the greatest missions of the church should look like.
