first community
February 1, 2012 This series on The Church has been great for me personally insofar as it has reminded of what the Church is not as well as who the Church is. It is challenging the way I think about “church” as well as the way I refer to “church” in speaking and writing. This week we’ll look at the “dark chapters” in church history, times when the Church got off track, made huge mistakes, got mired in lethargy, greed and error. What’s the point of looking at past mistakes? Simply to avoid them in our present and future. You may be surprised how often we repeat that which we know is mistaken . . . We will be in Acts 15 and asking ourselves: Do we put things in the way and prevent people from simply finding Jesus? Have we “added” something to the simple Good News? I hope we leave with crystal clarity regarding what God’s Good News is to us in Jesus Christ. After worship, we have Chili Bowl 2012. Bring an appetite and your favorite pot of chili/fixings/sides and spend some time in great Christian community!
